Hot Wheels Showcase Alternatives: 6 Apps for What Mattel's App Doesn't Do
July 29, 2026 · Updated November 3, 2026
Short answer: Mattel’s Hot Wheels Showcase is the official catalog and still the first app most collectors try. Since August 2026 it can scan cars, but free users get 3 scans a month and 250 cars, and it still has no Matchbox, no values and no export. Collectors who want unlimited scanning and collector prices use Hunt64, those who want many brands and free values use Die Carz, and desktop-first collectors use iCollect or a website checklist.
Mattel launched Hot Wheels Showcase in October 2025, and it has quickly become the first collection app most collectors try. It is official, its catalog of 35,000+ cars reaches back to 1968, and for a lot of casual collectors it is genuinely enough.
But if you found this page, you have probably hit one of its walls. Before we get to the alternatives, a disclosure: we build Hunt64, one of the apps below. We will tell you where each option, including ours, wins and loses. All details were checked on November 3, 2026, against each app’s own store listing, website or FAQ, and prices are US prices.
What Showcase does well
Credit where due. Showcase has the official catalog, series progress tracking, wishlists, badges, public profiles with following and QR code sharing, and push alerts when new cars drop. Since August 2026, Showcase Lens identifies a car or its package from a photo, and the app now runs in Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Polish and Turkish as well as English. If your whole need is “an official checklist with a garage,” it delivers.
Where collectors hit the walls
Four gaps come up over and over:
- The free tier got smaller. In August 2026 Showcase introduced Showcase Unlimited ($1.99 a month or $14.99 a year in the US). Without it, the garage holds 250 cars, you get up to 5 lists, and Lens gives you 3 scans a month. Mattel says long-time users have Founder status with unlimited garage storage, but new collectors start with the caps.
- No Matchbox. Mattel owns Matchbox, and the app still does not support it. Multi-brand collectors need a second system, which defeats the point of having a system.
- No values. The app tells you a car exists; it will not tell you what it is worth, what collectors paid for it, or whether the one in your hand is the version worth grabbing.
- No export. Mattel’s FAQ says the garage cannot be exported, and there is no mass import either. Whatever you build in Showcase stays in Showcase.
Here is where collectors land.
1. Hunt64: for unlimited scanning and collector prices
This is our app, so apply skepticism accordingly.
Point your camera at the front of a package and Hunt64 matches it against a catalog of 25,800+ releases as of November 2026: 19,100+ Hot Wheels from 1990 to 2027 (mainline, Treasure Hunt, Super Treasure Hunt, chase, Silver Series and Premium), plus Matchbox, Mini GT, Kaido House and Majorette. The result shows year, series, collector number and rarity flags, tells you whether you already own that release (the feature that matters most in a store aisle), and shows how far along that set you are. Scanning is free and unlimited on every plan, with no credits, meters or monthly caps. New in Hunt64 2.4, batch adding lets you shoot up to 30 cars back to back, or pick them from your gallery, and confirm them afterwards, which is the fast way to bring an existing collection over.
The prices come from collectors: 74,500+ purchase prices and 78,700+ valuations from 9,300+ collectors, published as a median per car once five collectors have contributed. They are in the app, with Pro or on any car once you add your own price. On top of that: a community feed for finds and hauls, follows, direct messages, set progress, collection stats, public profiles you can share as a link, CSV export on every plan, and Tomica, Greenlight, Jada and other brands as manual adds with your own photos.
Honest limits: the free collection holds 100 cars (plus 50 for every friend who joins with your invite code), fewer than Showcase’s 250; Pro ($2.99 a month or $19.99 a year in the US, or a lifetime purchase, with a 7-day free trial) removes the cap. The catalog starts in 1990 rather than 1968, prices exist only where five collectors contributed (2,280+ cars so far), and there is no desktop app and no PDF export. Download Hunt64.
2. Die Carz: for the most brands and free values
The strongest independent all-rounder. Die Carz has catalogs for eleven brands (Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Majorette, Mini GT, Bburago, Tarmac Works, Kaido House, Inno Models, BBR, Pop Race and Tomica), a social feed with reactions, achievements, a web app with sync, 18 languages, its own AI scanner since July 2026, and since October 2026 free values for every car and your whole garage (a minimum, median and maximum built from eBay deals, collector data and other marketplaces). The app is free, with optional supporter tiers on its website, and its 4.8 App Store rating reflects a well-liked product with a responsive developer and a public roadmap.
Honest limits: scans run on monthly credits (referrals and supporter tiers add more), there is no export yet (it is planned on its roadmap), and the community-submission model means catalog quality depends on volunteer review, which users sometimes dispute.
3. iCollect Toy Cars: for barcodes and desktop apps
Part of the long-running iCollect Everything family. Its strengths are different: barcode scanning with an alert when you already own the item, Mac and Windows apps, estimated values, and CSV import and export. Its buyers particularly like that you can pay once ($29.99 for unlimited toy cars on iOS) instead of subscribing forever.
Honest limits: the free tier stops at 30 items, the desktop apps need the Pro subscription ($79.99 a year in the app), AI photo scans are metered by credits even for paying users, and many Hot Wheels cards share barcodes across castings. The iOS app has not been updated since June 2026, Android users get it through the general iCollect Everything app, and there are no social features. It is a solid inventory tool, not a collector community.
4. Collect HW: for a web-based checklist
A website with a Hot Wheels catalog of 63,000+ items, ownership marking, unlimited lists and CSV export on a free account (a verified email is required, and the free tier shows ads). Supporter ($1.99 a month) removes the ads; Plus ($3.99 a month) adds advanced stats, a gap finder, PDF and insurance-report export, and private photos of your own cars. If you do your collecting admin at a desk, it is a strong answer.
Honest limits: no mobile scanning, nothing social beyond lists, and its values are averages of active eBay listings rather than sales.
5. Hot Wheels Price Guide: for the value question
If your main frustration with Showcase is “what is my collection worth,” hwpriceguide.com prices 33,600+ cars from real transaction data, with a free account for unlimited collection tracking. It runs on the web, iOS and Android, shows ads on the free version, and sells Pro at $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year. Many collectors run it alongside whatever garage app they use.
Honest limits: a price guide first and a tracker second. No scanning at the pegs and no rich condition or photo records.
6. Model Car Collector: for an unlimited free collection
AI scanning that fills in brand, casting, year, series and color and estimates a value, plus a free, unlimited collection across 600+ brands, with follows and “For Sale” flags. It started on Android and the web and arrived on iPhone in late October 2026.
Honest limits: only 2 free AI scans in total (plans with monthly scans run from $0.89 to $4.99 a month, or $9.99 a year), ads on the free version, and the iPhone app is brand new.
The quick decision guide
| If you mostly want… | Use |
|---|---|
| The official catalog, up to 250 cars free | Hot Wheels Showcase |
| Unlimited scans, collector prices, duplicate warnings, Mini GT, Kaido House and Majorette scanned too | Hunt64 |
| Maximum brand coverage and free values in one app | Die Carz |
| Barcodes, desktop apps, one-time payment | iCollect Toy Cars |
| A website checklist with CSV and PDF export | Collect HW |
| Collection value from real sales data | Hot Wheels Price Guide |
| An unlimited free collection across hundreds of brands | Model Car Collector |
A closing note: “alternative” does not have to mean “replacement.” Plenty of collectors keep Showcase for its official catalog and run a second app for the day-to-day work of managing a collection. If that second app should be the one that checks for duplicates while you are standing at the pegs, that is the exact problem Hunt64 was built for. Frequently asked questions
Can the Hot Wheels Showcase app scan cars?
Yes, since August 2026. Showcase Lens identifies a Hot Wheels car or its package from a photo. Free users get 3 Lens scans a month; unlimited scans need the Hot Wheels Showcase Unlimited subscription ($1.99 a month or $14.99 a year in the US).
Is Hot Wheels Showcase still free?
The app is free to download, but since August 2026 the free tier holds 250 cars, up to 5 lists and 3 Lens scans a month. Showcase Unlimited removes those limits. Mattel says long-time users have Founder status with unlimited garage storage, and active Red Line Club members get unlimited storage while their membership lasts.
Does Hot Wheels Showcase show what my cars are worth?
No. Showcase is a catalog and collection tracker without values or prices. For values, collectors use Die Carz (free market values since October 2026), Hunt64 (medians of what collectors paid and what owners value each release at) or a price guide website such as HW Price Guide.
Does Hot Wheels Showcase support Matchbox?
No. Mattel's FAQ says the app focuses on Hot Wheels. Die Carz has catalogs for Matchbox and ten other brands, and Hunt64's catalog and scanner cover Matchbox, Mini GT, Kaido House and Majorette alongside Hot Wheels.
Can I export my Hot Wheels Showcase garage?
No. Mattel's FAQ says the app does not include a way to export your garage, and mass import is not supported either. If export matters to you, Hunt64 (CSV on every plan), iCollect and the Collect HW website all export.
What is the best free alternative to Hot Wheels Showcase?
For many brands and free values, Die Carz. For scanning without a monthly limit, Hunt64, whose scanner is free and unlimited on every plan (the free collection holds 100 cars, plus 50 for every friend who joins with your invite code). For a desktop checklist, the Collect HW website's free tier.
